buy land northumberland
How hard would it be for a person with little to no experience to start their own smallholding like River Cott?
Cottage. That is my dream. One day I want to get out of the rat race (am accountant – could work from home) and buy a cottage somewhere in Northumberland and grow my own fruit and veg, keep a few chickens and a couple of pigs. I love River Cottage and watch all the reruns. I’d love to live off the fat of the land and only rarely have to go to the supermarket.
How hard would it be? I also would quite like to buy a delapidated old cottage or farmhouse and bring it back to glory.
Would Northumberland be an ok county to do this? Its quite far North. My dad grows loads in Tyne and Wear though.
I will refer you to Mr. Berner who owns a small holding in the UK. You can visit his blog at:

Additionally, I recommend you visit

At the above informative website you will find all sorts of assistance from others who are or have pursued a dream similar to your own.
As for myself, over here across the pond, I enjoy living on my small holding in Onslow County, North Carolina.
