Considering moving to Appalachian area of Virginia or North Carolina?
Wife and I are retired but find cost of living on east coast of Virginia too expensive. Real estate prices and taxes have escalated 400% in 10 years.
What is a lower cost area in foothills of Virginia or North Carolina with 1) Great scenerey, 2) Good access to interstate and international airport, 3) Good hospital and medical care (although we are in very good health), 4) Low crime statistics.
I think that Chapel Hill NC will meet all 3 of your listed criteria. It’s not the cheapest, but the cheapest will not meet all of your criteria.
