estate taxes 2010
please help?
my fiance and i are looking for a house to buy, we are looking in salem nj. his parents are going to buy us a house and then we will rent until we can afford to buy we want to get a place together before we get married in 2010. Here is the deal though we looked at this house that is an estate and everyone likes it but me! the outside is really cute and so is the yard no work needs to be done on that! cape cod witha 63×140 yard. fenced in with a nice size shed corner lot. 3 bedrooms 1.5 baths, the inside of the house is from like the 1600s though. his dad is a contractor(my fiances) so he said he would do all the work inside for us for free we would just pay for the material and he said not to even worry bout that now he would give us his home depot card, the house is 125,000 and they said we could prob get him down to 115000 taxes are 3000. and houses around there are going for 175000. Please held
If you get this house, will all the work be done before you have to move in? If not, I’m telling you right now, it won’t all get done for YEARS. And you will have your father-in-law in your house all hours of the day, coming in and out at his convenience, and constantly reminding you he is doing this as a favor, implying you owe him big time. Talk about your guilt factor. (Believe me, I’m speaking from experience.)
We were doing a major remodeling project and the in-laws promised to help out, since they had done something similar years ago to their house. They would come over at 6:00 am every weekend and we would have to get up and work on the remodel whether we wanted to sleep in, go out of town, whatever. Don’t do it. Finish all there is to do before you move in.
